Where is Redcliffe?

Redcliffe is both a town and a suburb. It is part of the city of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. A peninsula that extends into Moreton Bay is called Redcliffe Peninsula and it is home to several other suburbs.

Redcliffe, the suburb, had a population of 10,373 according to the 2016 census. The area has been a popular seaside resort dating back to the 1880s. Geographically speaking, you will find Redcliffe on the east-north-east portion of Redcliffe Peninsula, which sits on the western shore of Moreton Bay.

Concerning other major centres in the area, Redcliffe is north-north-east of the Brisbane Central Business District. Both areas are separated by about 28 kilometres or 17 miles. Although there is a lot of commercial and retail activity located within the Redcliffe Peninsula region, Brisbane provides primary shopping and services to the Redcliffe area.

Redcliffe is both a town and a suburb. It is part of the city of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. A peninsula that extends into Moreton Bay is called Redcliffe Peninsula and it is home to several other suburbs.

The population of Redcliffe was 9,201 in the 2011 census. By 2016, the census recorded 10,373 residents in the community. The estimated population in 2022 was 10,648. This equates to a density of 2,537 people per square kilometre. 

The gender split is just about right down the middle with 52% of the population female and the remaining 48% male. The median age of Redcliffe is 44. That is 7 years older than the median age of all of the population of Australia. 

Breaking down the demographics further, 15.5% of Redcliffe’s population are children under the age of 15. As for the other end of the scale, 20.7% of the population is 65 or older. Of the residents of Redcliffe, 68.4% say they were born in Australia. The national average sits at 69.8%. England accounts for 7% of the Redcliffe population as country of birth followed by New Zealand with 6.3%. Scotland was the country of birth for 1% of the local population, the Phillipines was home to 0.8%, and 0.7% say they are from the Netherlands. 

English is the only language spoken at home for 86.8% of Redcliffe’s residents. Italian was next with 0.5%, followed by Tagalog (0.4%), German (0.4%), Dutch (0.3%), and Samoan (0.3%).
